CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings, the No. 3 seed in the CIF Southern Section Division II-AA playoffs, scored a 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 first-round win Thursday.
Kara Chatham led CdM (15-8) with 14 kills, while Madie Smith had 28 assists. Ashley Pries chipped in 14 digs and Jamie Lawson had three aces for the Sea Kings, who will face St. Lucy’s in the quarterfinals Saturday at a site to be determined by coin flip today.

TORRANCE — Annie Tomasek led the Eagles with 12 kills in their 25-20, 25-9, 25-13 loss in the second round of the CIF Division II-AA playoffs Thursday.
Sarah Braunsdorf and Oliva Schow added 11 kills each, while Shona Lamb had 28 assists and Amanda Watson finished with 19 digs for Estancia (19-13).

DIAMOND BAR — Newport Harbor sophomore Lauren Draganza shot a 10-over-par 83, finishing in 58th place at Diamond Bar Golf Course Thursday.
Draganza missed the cut as 28 golfers qualified for the next tournament, the Women’s Southern California Golf Assn. individual championships in Murrieta. Draganza’s older sister, Natalie, who’s now at Boston College, advanced to the event in 2003 while at Newport Harbor.
Out of the 90 golfers, Draganza was the lone Newport-Mesa golfer competing.

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior Jaclyn Smrecek won 18 of 19 games at No. 3 singles and junior Laney Tucker also swept at No. 1 singles to lead the No. 2-seeded Ligntning in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
Sage (15-4) travels to face Arroyo Valley in Saturday’s second round.

CORONA DEL MAR — The Sea Kings won all their doubles sets and dropped just one in singles to advance to the second round in the CIF Division I playoffs Thursday.
The Sea Kings will face Northwood Saturday at noon, at a site to be determined by a coin flip today.

NEWPORT BEACH — Clinton Jorth led the top-seeded Sailors with six goals in the CIF Division I first-round home game Thursday.
