Girls under 10 (Plus)
Newport Beach Breakers 5, South Irvine 0: The Breakers (7-0) remained undefeated with their shutout victory Saturday at Kaiser Elementary. Bailey Prado opened the scoring in the first quarter by finishing a corner kick. Taylor McMorrow scored two second-quarter goals, the first off a corner and second off a cross from Grace Clemence. Toni Holland scored two third-quarter goals off assists from Kekai Whitford and Jordan Blanchfield.
Leading 5-0 in the third quarter, the Breakers played keep-away for the remainder of the game. Defensively the Breakers received outstanding play from Emma Griffith, Brandi White and Gigi Woodall. Peyton Espley-Jones and Emily Goltz shared time in goal and recorded the third straight shutout victory for the Breakers.
Girls under 14
CM 5, Green Lightning 4: Tamera Myers scored the first two goals for the Lightning, with an assist by Page Keys. Monika Peterson scored on a breakaway run in the third quarter, and the last goal for the Lightning was drilled in by Gigi Light. Lauren Steinke and Michelle Brookes both had great defensive games in the goal. Leading the offense were Page Keys, Rochelle Bowlin, Paige Bell-Wheelan and Janet Zelpa. Excellent defensive moves and ball handling were key in the game by players Megan Farley, Hannah Beek, Andrea O’Campo and Kaelyn Kuenzli.
Girls under 10
Orange Crush 2, Shiny Pink Diamonds 0: With their hair painted orange, Orange Crush’s players were on a quest to finish the regular season with a winning record. The first half was scoreless due to superior goalkeeper plays from Sklyer Gullick and Allison Hanscom. Hannah Alderson came into the game with a high fever, yet still made outstanding defensive stops and dominated the open field with her hustle. Hayden Allen displayed her speed with some aggressive attacks down the sideline from her forward position.
Orange Crush came through in the third quarter. Mackenzie Paskerian took control of the ball at midfield and made a textbook outlet pass to forward Emily Fay. Fay got by the Shiny Pink Diamonds’ defense and fired a grass burner by their goalkeeper for a goal. In the fourth quarter, Rylie Siegfried provided an insurance goal when she darted in from the sidelines and sliced a shot into the corner of the goal. Gullick came back in as goalkeeper to seal the shutout.
Hot Tamales: Megan Keys, Megan Deegan, Haley Martinez and Kendall Cosenza led the attack on offense for the Hot Tamales. Caylee Talbot, Amanda Cox, and Rebecca Szulga shined on defense. Keeping the ball out of the net and up the field were Demi Ronis, Maggie Osumi, Destry Comp, Genesee Giedt and Callie Spooner.
Girls under 8
Golden Fireballs: Jordan Golden, Katie Browman, Sydney Palmer and Michella Pokusa led offensive drives. Lauren Lyons, Miranda McCormick, Lara Farinsky, and Lauren Babin played excellent on defense and offense.
Golden Fireballs vs. Red Hot Lava Girls: Micha Pokusa was a star defender, along with Katie Browman and Sydney Palmer. Betsy Calder’s strong kicks flew clear across the field. Jordan Golden defended the goal with an impressive nose dive. Miranda McCormick did well in the huddle. Lauren Lyons played well on defense and offense.
Boys under 8
Gators vs. Eagles: Great sportsmanship was demonstrated by Tommy Hanle who pitched in and played on the Eagles to even up the sides. Everyone put on their best with amazing passing and assists by Joshua Gehlke, Matthew Ingram and Lucas Ovalle. That led to great goals by Hunter Hall, Vincent Rubino and Cole McFetters. Carter Bays, Ian Hanson and Domenic Christansen showed good dribbling.
Dolphins vs. Firecrackers: Scotty Ryder scored two goals in the first quarter and another in the second quarter with two additional shots on goal. Adam Lucas had a shot on goal from a corner kick in the first quarter, and made stops, blocks and great kicks as goalie in the third and fourth quarters. Dillon Lippman made some great defensive plays as fullback and moved the ball up to his teammates many times. Nolen Putnam delivered great traps, moved the ball up toward the goal with some nice dribbling and had a shot on goal in the fourth quarter. Luke Mendoza played a great defensive game as fullback and left half, taking the ball away from his opponents and moving it up the field to his teammates several times.
Sean Waterman played a great defensive game as right half in the first half of the game and successfully moved the ball forward to his teammates. Eathan Talley was a great defenseman in the first quarter and as left and right wing in the second half of the game he was all over the ball, clearing it to his teammates. Nathan Porter was a strong goalie in the first half of the game and displayed excellent trapping, dribbling and passing skills in the second half. Cole Schneider had his best game to date, playing center, right wing and left half.
Girls under 7
Island Girls vs. Red Hot Lava Girls: Claire Bacon and Sklyar Jacobsen were on fire in their offensive attempts for the Island Girls. Claire Jeffs, Nicole Nesbitt and Grace Fay were exhibiting fancy footwork, while Carolyn Altshuler and Lauren Titelman held strong on the defensive end. Caroline Pipkin and Alina Aguirre drew cheers from the crowd with their amazing goals.
Girls under 6
Shooting Stars vs. Flaming Sharks: The Shooting Stars challenged the Flaming Sharks in an exciting game that saw both teams making impressive offensive and defensive plays. Madison Mamelli scored two breakaway goals for the Shooting Stars, while Alex Terry, Megan Houlihan and Jeannie Williams provided offensive support. Kate Lynch and Katie Ridley provided all-around play.
Firecrackers vs. Surfs Up: Paige Bryant, Lily Shea and Keilani Lee all scored goals in this extremely well-matched game. Katie Hess held the line with some very strong defense while Courtney Ima had a great breakaway and assisted Keilani Lee on a great goal. Ashleigh McPhie had great defense and was consistent with her powerful kicks. Lily Newman made a super kick and had an outstanding breakaway.
Pink Dolphins vs Fireflies: Mandy Evans showed great speed with a solo dribble toward the goal. Fiona Slevin was fierce on defense and offense with a goal. Cora Harmon kicked it out of the huddle and Jaden Golden sneaked in to turn the ball around. Tyesha Aguilar was a driving force toward the goal. Rachel Gore and Leah Beehler were great all-around team players who never gave up.
Pink Dolphins vs Green Grasshoppers: Rachel Gore really shined with an impressive drive down the field to score. Tyesha Aguillar played well on defense and offense. Cora Harmon executed an impressive kick-off. Leah Beehler defended the goal and almost scored for her team multiple times. Fiona Slevin attacked the field and sprinted around the other players. Mandy Evans kicked an impressive turn-around from the huddle. Jaden Golden helped defensively with several turn-around kicks.
Boys under 5
Sea Creatures vs. Vikings: The Sea Creatures and the Vikings were evenly matched, playing to a tied score. At times the game looked like a rugby match, with all the players going after the ball at once. Aidan Gassel and Eddie Peterson were fearless in the battle for control of the ball. In the first quarter, Owen Lucas was able to kick the ball loose for the Sea Creatures, followed by a long run down the field and a successful shot high into the net. Joseph Whelan also displayed amazing ball handling with quite a few runs the length of the field, also scoring one in the first quarter. In the third quarter, Finn McClintock took a break from some awesome defensive play to maneuver the ball through a gap in the Viking offense and straight into the net.
Yellow Lizards vs. The Bulldogs: Anders Olson initiated the scoring for the Lizards on Saturday and followed with a second goal later in the game. The tone was set as both teams exchanged scores. The Yellow Lizards played a solid game, both offensively and defensively. Additional goals for the Lizards were scored by Trent Liolios, Trevor Muir and Benjamin Roberts.

Boys under 6
Stingers vs. Green Storm: Tyler Harvey led the Stingers’ goal barrage with five goals, followed by Christian Schwarz with four goals. Strong kicks by Alee Assadian and Blake Jackson put the pressure on the Storm all game. Ryan Shahrestany and Jacob Krantz were like buzz saws, going end to end. A solid defensive performance was turned in by Sam Hurwitz.
