GLENDALE — The Sailors won eight of nine in doubles in a wild-card match of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs Tuesday at Glendale.

The Sailors’ doubles team of seniors Alex McIntosh and Alli Shea took all three of their matches, winning 6-3, 6-1, 6-1. Newport’s No. 2 doubles team of senior Brittany Sowers and junior Natalie Small also swept without dropping a game.

Newport senior Emily Gelbaum played to a 3-4 score before having to retire from the match due to injury, but substitute Rebecca Arnold filled in nicely, winning both of her matches, 6-2, 6-2.

Newport Harbor (15-5) will play at El Dorado in the first round Thursday at 3 p.m.

Pacific Coast League finals

IRVINE — Corona del Mar High sophomores Hailey Hogan and Melissa Matsuoka won the PCL doubles title with an 8-6 victory over teammates Danielle Kaiden and Paige Polizois Tuesday at University.

All four players have advanced to the CIF Individuals tournament on Nov. 17.

Hogan and Matsuoka, the PCL’s top-seeded team, defeated Corona del Mar sophomores Kelli Feeley and Elizabeth Nguyen, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals.

Kaiden and Polizois scored a 6-3, 7-6 upset win over Corona del Mar juniors Lindsay Zotovich and Karen Ishii to advance to the title match.

Zotovich and Ishii, the No. 2 seed, reached the quarterfinals of the CIF Individuals last year.

In the third-place match, Zotovich and Ishii defeated Feeley and Nguyen, 8-0.

SAN PEDRO — Sophomore Lindsey Kish had six kills for the Lightning in their 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 loss in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoffs Tuesday.

Senior Colleen Heyler added five kills and sophomore Hayden Furey had four kills for Sage Hill (11-19), which entered the playoffs as the Academy League’s second-place team.

Lightning senior Mackenzie Bronk had 12 digs and four aces, while sophomore setter Hanalynn Hunt finished with 22 assists.
