Protester won’t try to stop dredging project
- Share via
A Laguna Beach resident and activist has given up his quest to see the dredging of the Upper Newport Bay stopped.
Roger Butow, founder and chairman of the Clean Water Now! Coalition, had threatened to try and stop the dredging project by filing in court for injunctive relief.
Butow argued Laguna residents didn’t get to weigh in on the project and should have been included in the decision-making process because the dredged sediment is dumped at an EPA-approved dump site 4 miles off the Newport/Laguna border.
The EPA then provided a list of those who were informed about the dump site. Laguna Beach City Council members and water quality organizations were included.
