There’s a lot to be said for justice.
Alexander Hamilton said this: “Why has government been instituted at all? Because the passions of men will not conform to the dictates of reason and justice, without constraint.”
Headlines last week exposed the connection between Corona del Mar businessman Don Haidl and O.C. Sheriff Mike Carona.
Haidl got an assistant sheriff job and special treatment for his family and friends, in exchange for repeated payments to Carona and the sheriff’s longtime mistress, as well as placing Carona on a previously nonexistent board of directors for a company owned by Haidl’s uncle.
That’s what it says in a 2005 indictment filed against Carona that was unsealed Tuesday.
We can only hope there is further justice due for the Haidl family.
If that doesn’t work, perhaps we can take solace in the words of Matt Groening, creator of “The Simpsons:”
“You know, the courts may not be working any more, but as long as everyone is videotaping everyone else, justice will be done.”
