CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP: Breathing masks free at hospital

People with acute and chronic respiratory conditions who are suffering from the smoke due to the fires may obtain a free respiratory mask at South Coast Medical Center in South Laguna. Distribution of masks will began Thursday and will continue as long as supplies last.

Masks will be distributed from noon to 6 p.m.

To get a mask, enter the hospital on 7th Street and go up the hill; distribution tables will be on the right-hand side. After receiving a mask, make an immediate left and drive past the hospital’s lobby, and exit on 5th Street.

There is no need to get out of the car; volunteers will hand out the masks as drivers slowly drive through the parking lot.

After hours, masks will be available through the Emergency Room.

Great Park designer at Conservancy dinner

Ken Smith, lead designer of the Orange County Great Park, will be the special guest at the Laguna Canyon Conservancy dinner meeting Nov. 5 at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

Smith is a landscape architect who has worked on a variety of national and international projects. Smith will lead the design team that will create the park.

No-Host Bar opens at 6 p.m. with dinner served around 6:35 p.m., with the program following. Dinner tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members and may be paid at the door with prior reservations.

Membership is $10 per person, per calendar year. New memberships and renewals, which will be good through Dec. 31, 2008, are now being accepted. Reservations are required by Nov. 3. To reserve a spot, call Ed at (949) 494-6465. Leave name, phone number, and number of reservations.

Rotary plans classic invitational car show

The fourth annual Laguna Beach Classic Car Show will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

Hundreds of classic car enthusiasts are expected at the invitational event, designed to attract the finest examples in each category. Proceeds will go toward charitable and local nonprofit organizations.

Rotary has invited men and women serving in the military and stationed at Camp Pendleton, Miramar and Point Loma to attend as guests of the club.

Cosmo names Laguna one of “Sexiest Places in the World”

Cosmopolitan Magazine voted Laguna Beach as one of the “Sexiest Places in the World” in its October issue, according to the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau..

The story lists three destinations in the United States as top rated places for the “Ultimate Romantic Getaway” and Laguna Beach finished in the No. 2 slot. Midcoast Maine was rated No. 1 while the Great Smoky Mountains finished in third place.
