Pirates win division crown

The Pirates and Outlaws played on even terms for two periods in the Lemieux Division summer league championship final Saturday, but the Pirates claimed the division title with two goals in the second period in an 8-6 victory at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Six Pirates went into the scoring column led by two goals apiece by Eric Stoner and Jamie Schlegel. Kevin Christi, Garrett Haar, Justin Pederson and Robert Oliver also scored.

Christi led the team in assists with five.

The Outlaws were led in scoring by Mark Miller’s two goals. Lauren Martin, Justin Bracamontes, Matty Nolan and Bradley Grote each scored once.

Nolan, Bracamontes, Grote, Nathan Bergeron and Chelsea Griffith all had assists.

Patrick Division

OC Tribe 7, Danglers 4

Dylan Miller scored three goals and had two assists and Zane Weber scored three times with an assist to help OC Tribe to the division title.

Bryan Perez also scored, Elijah McHenry had three assists and Jeremy McHenry racked up two assists to complete the Tribe’s offense.

Jonathan Cao recorded 16 saves.

Cody Merrick scored two goals to lead a Danglers offense that also included single goals by Steven Strother and Aaron Baca-Chavez, and an assist by Alvin Do.

Mark Miller made 20 saves.

Wales Division

Ice Dogs 3, Red Wings 0

The Ice Dogs defense, with keeper Ian Marzolf getting 27 saves, shut down the Red Wings in the final.

Matthew Moore scored twice and had one assist, Ben Sumner had a goal and assist, and Bryan Bennett had an assist for the offense.

Tyler Allen had 29 saves for the Red Wings.

Howe Division

Diablos 5, Goonies 4

Matthew Chism’s third goal of the match, scored with 1:58 to play, gave the Diablos a two-goal cushion and provided the difference in a tight match.

Austin Koss scored twice with an assist and Ian Gibbons had an assist for the Diablos.

Karson Derego, who finished with two goals, scored with 1:30 remaining to draw the Goonies to within a goal but they could get no closer. Stephen Goodman and Alan Plummer also scored for the Goonies, Jonathan Carlson had an assist, and Eric Grant finished with 22 saves.

Smythe Division

Young Americans 7, Sharks 4

The Young Americans took a 5-2 lead into the final period and went on to defeat the Sharks.

Kevin Ozeretny scored three goals to pace the winners. Alex Buyan scored twice, and Mason Trujillo scored once. Ozeretny and Andrew Schenker each had two assists, and Buyan and Trujllo each had one assist.

Ethan Higbee had 35 saves.

Karson Derego and Alec Lang both scored twice for the Sharks, Weston Bechtold, Logan Bechtold, Ethan Simpson and Lucia Procopio each had an assist, and Kyle Aube recorded 19 saves.

Norris Division

Swat 8, Lightning 4

Joe Gibb and Trenton Shehan each netted three goals as Swat beat the Lightning.

Ryan Beardshear and Joshua Wagoner also scored. Shehan also had two assists and Beardshear, Braeden Stack and Jordan Reichenbach each had an assist. Brandon Wagoner had 17 saves.

Casey Rhodes scored three of the Lightning’s four goals and Cooper Haar scored the other. Nicholas Thompson assisted three of those goals, Haar and Jared Nelson also were in on an assist and Brett Rudy had 22 saves.

Campbell Division

Puckhogs 6, Hot Wheels 3

The Puckhogs outscored the Hot Wheels, 2-1 in each period, to take the division crown.

Garrett Felix led the Puckhogs in scoring with three goals. Dylan Reightley, Chris Hernandez and Tyler Donelson also scored. Marlin Liberatore led the team in assists with two and Weston Bechtold finished with 11 saves.

For the Hot Wheels, Preston Yamasaki scored twice, Zeke Ziegler had a goal and two assists, Jacob Olson had an assist and Jackson Wozniak had 23 saves.

Mite Club Division

Blades 98 Black 8, In the Mix 3

The Blades outscored In the Mix by four goals in the final period to pull away to the win.

Evan Gray scored four goals to pace the Blades on offense. Brent Rivera scored twice and added two assists, Sean Cullinane scored twice, and Blake Yokoyama had an assist.

Scoring for In the Mix were Cannon Kunichika, Keaton Nalle and Trenton Coats. Braeden Stack had a pair of assists, and Joshua Ferrer had an assist.
