Memorial services for Doree Dunlap, an Orange Coast College art professor and staff member for nearly 30 years, will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 26 on the arts pavilion patio on campus.
Dunlap, who died of cancer on Oct. 4 at 58, had been the director of the $6 million, 8,500-square-foot Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion since 2003.
She personally curated the art gallery’s opening show, “The 60th Anniversary Retrospective.”
Dunlap had been at OCC since 1975 and was married to English professor Ed Dornan, who died in 2005.
Before her time at the college, Dunlap was a graphic, video and drawing artist whose work was featured in galleries from Los Angeles to Germany.
She worked as a project curator for Andy Warhol’s photographic portrait of Jane Fonda and was an advisor and curator for art collectors and artists from Orange County to New York.
“Doree was absolutely tenacious in making certain that the arts pavilion was built as designed and to specifications,” said Sylvia Impert, an OCC arts colleague, in a prepared statement.
“Because of her, we have a high-end, state-of-the-art building that serves as one of the best galleries in Southern California. She was a close personal friend of mine, and I’m going to miss her greatly.”
