SANTA ANA —The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in California, swept an Orange Empire Conference match, 30-17, 30-20, 30-25, Wednesday. Christina Richards, Rebecca Lowe and Dierdre Fiapai all had eight kills to lead OCC (10-1, 4-0 in conference), the two-time defending state champion, that plays host to rival Golden West on Friday at 7 p.m.
Concordia 4, Vanguard 0
IRVINE — The No. 18-ranked Lions allowed Trina McGee to score three goals as No. 10 Concordia won the in Golden State Athletic Conference play Wednesday. Jillian Foss made four saves for Vanguard (7-3-3, 2-2-2).
Cal Poly 3, UC Irvine 2
SAN LUIS OBISPO — The UC Irvine men’s soccer team couldn’t hold a 2-0 halftime lead in losing the Big West Conference game Wednesday at Cal Poly.
The Anteaters (5-3-3, 0-2-1 in league) scored in the 11th minute, as sophomore Kevin Santora scored his first goal of the season. UCI then went up 2-0 in the 19th minute, when freshman Spencer Thompson scored on Matt Murphy’s assist.
But Cal Poly struck three straight times, including the game-winner in the 84th minute.
