Fire forces evacuation at Balboa Peninsula Pavilions
Newport Beach firefighters knocked down a structure fire Tuesday morning in the Pavilions Marketplace on Via Lido.
The fire was reported at the Balboa Peninsula grocery store just before 9 a.m.
Fire crews from Newport Beach and Costa Mesa arrived and, after seeing smoke rising from the building, evacuated employees and customers, said Newport Beach Fire Spokesman Matt Brisbois.
According to staff at Pavilions, the flames broke out in the deli area, near the bakery. No one was injured, Brisbois said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Store employees declined to comment on the morning’s fire.
