Free event at Orange Coast College full of Latin culture

Latin music, dance, art and food will all be part of Orange Coast College “Dia de la Raza” 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 14. The free event on the OCC quadrangle is open to the public.

Members of Ballet Hispanico from New York City will perform throughout the afternoon. The dance company has received recognition for its blend of ballet and dance from Latin cultures.

Musical performances will include a blend of Afro-Cuban, Latin jazz and salsa music from the Susie Hansen Latin Band from Los Angeles and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, America’s first all-female mariachi ensemble.

The festival also will feature performances by OCC dance students and faculty members. Crafts and food booths will be set up in the quad, and guests may bring picnic lunches. For information about Dia de la Raza, call (714) 432-5040.
