UCI scientists to present cutting-edge research

Nobel laureate Eric Wieschaus will be the keynote speaker today at the UC Irvine-sponsored eighth annual International Conference on Systems Biology in Long Beach.
The conference has featured UCI scientists presenting cutting-edge research projects.
Systems biology is the science of looking at living organisms the way people look at a car or plane — look at the body and study why it and its parts work the way they do.
The study aims to make sense of an organism’s complexity so to better repair it when something breaks down.
Today and Friday offer glimpses into systems biology breakthroughs and technology in systems biology applications and simulations. For more information about the conference at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, go online to www.icsb-2007.org.
