Costa Mesa Public Services Director Bill Morris will retire at the end of November, after 18 years with the city. He announced his decision last week to cap his 35-year public service career, which includes work for the cities of Cerritos and Cypress.
Morris also has been an aerospace engineer for McDonnell Douglas, and he served as president of the Orange County Engineers Assn. in 2004. He plans to spend more time surfing, traveling, and being with his wife, Wendy, and their three grown children, according to an announcement from the city.
“Bill has been a tremendous asset to our city team and has worked hard for many years to improve our local streets, parks and public facilities while keeping a sharp eye on both the quality and cost of public projects,” City Manager Allan Roeder said in a prepared statement. Officials have not decided how Morris will be replaced.
