Commission’s JWA land use findings at issue

The Costa Mesa City Council will decide Tuesday whether to override a vote of the Airport Land Use Commission that found plans for a 23-story condo tower, parking garage and overhaul of the existing Wyndham hotel are inconsistent with land use plans for the area surrounding John Wayne Airport. A four-fifths vote of the council is needed to override the commission and allow the project to proceed.

It’s likely the council will overrule the commission because the Federal Aviation Administration in July said the hotel and condo plan would not be a hazard to planes.

The Costa Mesa City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 77 Fair Drive. To view the agenda, visit www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.us. Live and replay video of the meeting also is available through the city web site, under the heading “Costa Mesa TV.”
