SCHOOL BOARD WRAP-UP
The following is from the Sept. 25 meeting of the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education.
Fire response to use color-coded maps
Fraisse detailed the fire policy he is developing with school principals, the Laguna Beach Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Authority.
New color-coded maps outlining response measures are in development, as is a plan to stage school buses if high winds or fire activity compel the district to action.
“It is unconscionable that we haven’t addressed it before,” Trustee Ketta Brown said of the policy.
Board approves district goals outlined earlier
The board unanimously approved the district goals it began developing in a visionary session with new Supt. Robert Fraisse last week.
The details of the initiatives that were developed were reported in the Sept. 21 Coastline Pilot.
Union president seeks ‘green’ program
John MacDonald, the district’s California State Employees Assn. president, suggested that the district’s classified employees become involved in the district’s Quest 4 Excellence program by developing a “Go Green” committee that would focus on reducing the district’s electrical and water usage, with financial incentives to do so.
“I have a feeling it could be spectacular, dollar-wise,” he said.
