HB nails its first victory

The Huntington Beach Black Oilers bounced back from a tough loss in a big way Saturday, as they pounded the South Bay Packers, 39-6, in a Jr. All-American Football Jr. Clinic Division matchup.

Steele Dubar, Joshua Crooks, Anthony DeLaTorre and Jackson McCleery all scored touchdowns for the Black Oilers who recorded their first win of the season.

Huntington’s offense received strong blocking up front from Ethan Redira, Nathan Partch, Shane Martinez, Joshua Hadlock and Jake Armstrong.

Jeremy Romash, Nathan Teves, Shane Hammer and Alec Morales had key runs.

Huntington 9, Rowland Heights 0

The Black Oilers came up with their second shutout of the season by blanking the visiting Raiders at Huntington Beach High Saturday.

It was the defense that gave Huntington its first points as Riley Smith tackled a Raiders ball carrier in the end zone for a safety.

Joseph Stillwagon, Jeramey Chiantaretto and Lance Cervantes also gave strong defensive performances.

Luke Simonian, who had recovered a kickoff, scored the game’s lone touchdown on Brae Ivey’s pass.

Ivey made the conversion point to cap the scoring.

Huntington hosts the Carson Colts at 11 a.m. Saturday at Huntington Beach High.

The Oilers took a 13-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat the Titans.

Skyler Pavloff rushed for a touchdown and Trevor Diehl hit Grant Peugh with the conversion pass in the second quarter, to open up the scoring.

Diehl ran 45 yards for another score later in the quarter, to give the Oilers a 13-0 lead at the break.

Huntington’s defense, led by Ryan burke, Matt Marks and Brent Dobie, shut down the Titans in the first half and its play was capped by Maurice Barber’s fumble recovery just before intermission.

In the second half, Grant Peugh’s long run set up Nick Howard’s touchdown dash. Derek Haab’s, Jason Orozco’s and Gavin Ryan-Massa’s defense continued to contain the Titans in the second half.

The Oilers (2-1) go on the road for an 11 a.m. kickoff Saturday at Bellflower.
