Sage Hill athletics to add boys’ and girls’ lacrosse

Sage Hill School will be adding boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams for the upcoming spring season, Athletic Director John Poffenberger said Tuesday.

The teams will be official, CIF-sanctioned teams rather than club teams.

The CIF Southern Section sanctioned lacrosse as a sport in 2006.

“More and more students are getting exposed to [lacrosse] at a younger age,” Poffenberger said. “From some of the research I’ve done, it’s one of the fastest growing sports in Orange County.”

He added that many of the students at Sage Hill already play lacrosse, so it made sense to make it an official school sport as it became more widespread.

Poffenberger said he hopes to have coaches in place for the new teams by the beginning of November.
