CITY ROUNDUP:Fire chief to discuss wildfires
The Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. will hold its general meeting at Top of the World Elementary School multi-purpose room on Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m. The focus will be wildfire awareness and preparedness. The school is at 21601 Tree Top Lane. The public is invited and there is no charge.
Laguna Beach Fire Chief Mike Macey and Battalion Chief Kris Head will provide information regarding fire safety.
Due to the near record lack of rainfall this winter, the dry plants in the open space surrounding Laguna Beach will create an especially hazardous fire season.
There will also be a short business portion of the meeting to elect a Board of Directors.
Nominations for the Board will be made by the Nominating Committee and from the floor. The Nominating Committee’s slate is: Christopher Brazelton, Dave Connell, Gene Felder, Jackie Gallagher, Les Miklosy Gary Schwager, Karen Schwager, Margot Seeholzer, Piero Wemyss, Carolyn Wood, and Scott Woodard.
The next event sponsored by Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. is the Neighborhood Picnic, planned for Sunday, September 23 at Alta Laguna Park.
Clinic part of Macy’s event for HIV/AIDS
The Laguna Beach Community Clinic is a beneficiary of Macy’s 2007 Passport shopping event on Sept. 29 at South Coast Plaza.
The shopping extravaganza and in-store party includes discounts on almost everything at Macy’s, Macy’s Men’s and Macy’s Home Store at South Coast Plaza, the only Orange County location participating. Festivities include an opportunity to win a $1,000 shopping spree.
A purchase of a $10 ticket from the Community Clinic (all proceeds go directly to the Clinic) gets a 10-20% discount on almost all items at Macy’s. It is also possible to shop and pay for your purchases early, beginning Sept. 19, and pick them up any time between Sept. 29 and Oct. 5.
To buy a ticket, stop by the Clinic and ask for Shirley Lorenz or call (949) 494-0761, ext. 134. Tickets may also be purchased through www.lbclinic.org.
