Suspect robs bank wearing motorcycle helmet

Newport Beach police are searching for a man who robbed a local bank Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:52 p.m., a man dressed in a black motorcycle helmet, black jacket and jeans entered the Union Bank in the 1000 block of Bayside Drive and demanded a large sum of money from one of the bank employees, police said.

The man grabbed the cash and ran out of the building, Sgt. Evan Sailor said. He was last seen running behind a supermarket in the same shopping center.

Police have few details about the robbery and are looking into another robbery that occurred earlier this year in Corona del Mar and shares some similarities with Wednesday’s robbery, Sailor said.
