Costa Mesa to vote on Lions Park skatepark

Plans for a skate park at Costa Mesa’s Lions Park will be on the table Tuesday, when the City Council votes on whether to hire RJM Design Group to create a conceptual design for the park.

The huge popularity of the Volcom skate park at TeWinkle Park has officials feeling positive about another park, but some residents who live by Lions Park say it’s not the right location. Building there also would require the Lions Club to find another location for its popular annual fish fry.

The Council also will vote on a new contract with firefighters that would give them a 3.56% raise retroactive to July 1 and raises in 2008 and 2009 based on surveys of other area departments’ pay. The Costa Mesa City Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 77 Fair Drive.
