City Council to discuss lease at closed session

Newport Beach City Council members will meet behind closed doors Tuesday to discuss a possible lease of Irvine Co. property in the 500 block of Newport Center Drive as a city hall site.
Details of the property’s size and possible terms of the lease have not been disclosed.
The council has been focused on two Avocado Avenue parcels — one next to the central library that’s reserved for a park, and a park-and-ride site down the street — as the most likely places for city hall.
But a majority of the council has voted against the park site repeatedly, and negotiations for the park-and-ride plot don’t appear to be moving quickly.
Council members will meet to discuss the Irvine Co. property after a 4 p.m. study session Tuesday at 3300 Newport Blvd.
