Genevieve Amy Smith

Corona del Mar resident for 55 years, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at Hoag Hospital. A Pearl Harbor Attack survivor, Genevieve was the daughter-in-law of Colonel Andy Smith, Newport Beach City Councilman and Mayor in the 1950’s. Her husband, William A. Smith was a World War II bomber pilot who was killed in the crash of his B-25 in 1946. Genevieve worked as a secretary for the Newport- Mesa Unified School District in the 1960’s and ‘70’s.

Genevieve Amy Wood was born January 10, 1918 to Arthur Lee Wood and Jean Terrell Wood. She attended Jamestown (N.D.) High School and was a graduate of the University of Michigan - class of 1940, B.S. (Biology).

Genevieve is survived by her son, Ray Smith and daughter-in-law, Karen of Marina, CA, her daughter, Jean Kirby and son-in-law, James of Valyermo, grandchildren Colin Smith (and his wife, Kerry) and Kateyrae Brown, great-grandsons, Tanner and Trent, and dear family friend, Cherie Campion of Huntington Beach. Genevieve’s oldest son, Andrew William Smith, (“Panda”), died in 2005.

Genevieve loved her home “Channel’s End”, one of the oldest homes on Ocean Blvd., just west of Inspiration Point. She was blessed to be able to stay in her home the last 4 years of her life due to the loving care of Presy Pongos, Lani Sanchez, and Mila Magante. She was additionally blessed in her last week to have the superb, professional and compassionate care of Hoag Hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit staff, including Anaita, Andrew, and Jake.

There will be a celebration of life in honor of Genevieve Sunday August 19th 2007 at her home between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hoag Hospital’s Cardiac Critical Care Unit.
