Man loses control of car, dies

Huntington Beach Traffic investigators were working Wednesday to determine what caused a car crash that claimed the life of a Westminster man Tuesday night on Springdale Street.

Jerry Jensen, 39, lost control of his car about 8:45 p.m., skipped the curb and hit an Edison pole head-on just south of Engineer Drive, police said.

Jensen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, investigator Bob Barr said. Emergency crews had to cut open the driver’s side door of the white Honda Civic in order to pull him out.

A witness who heard the accident on the other side of a fence reportedly looked over the wall and saw another vehicle pull up to Jensen’s car just after the accident, Barr said. Police are hoping that driver will come forward to help them better understand what may have caused the accident.

“There’s nothing that appears [to show that] he was struck or run off the road or anything else” such as medical problems, Barr said.

Drinking does not appear to be a factor in the accident although investigators cannot be sure until toxicology tests are completed, which should take at least a couple of weeks, Barr said. Jensen’s brother told investigators Jensen was not much of a drinker, police said.

Barr asked that anyone with information concerning the accident contact police at (714) 536-5666.
