Parks commission leaves play time policy alone
Costa Mesa’s parks commission opted Wednesday not to change the way some youth sports groups are classified, which affects how much playing time they get on the city’s limited number of athletic fields.
Top priority goes to groups with at least 90% Costa Mesa residents, but several groups are grandfathered in to that status. The commission considered expanding the top category so the grandfathered groups, and possibly others, could apply for preferred status for field time.
Instead, commissioners left that part of the field use policy as is. They did agree to other changes, such as the formula for divvying up time on fields. The changes will go to the City Council at a future meeting.
