Man found guilty of first degree murder in shooting
A Costa Mesa man was found guilty of first degree murder Monday in a 2005 bar shooting caught on tape by security cameras.
The jury found that Luis Alberto-Acevedo Cruz, 23, was heavily under the influence of methamphetamines, cocaine and alcohol when he shot another bar patron. He faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.
On Oct. 23, police and firefighters arrived at the Juan More Time bar in the 1000 block of El Camino Drive and found 22-year-old Jose Pilotzi Salaiz, of Costa Mesa, shot in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 24 at the Superior Court Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said.
