BRIEF
ALL-OCL BASEBALL
The Costa Mesa High and Estancia baseball teams each had two players make the first-team Orange Coast League.
For the Mustangs, seniors John Rybarczyk and Matt Pisarski were honored, and seniors Trevor McDonald and Tim Morley for the Eagles.
Rybarczyk and Pisarski were instrumental in helping Costa Mesa (15-12) reach the postseason for the first time since 2001 by making the wild-card game of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs. The Mustangs finished second at 6-6 in the new, four-team league.
Rybarczyk, a designated hitter headed to Vanguard, led Costa Mesa with nine home runs, 28 RBIs, a .840 slugging percentage, and was second on the team with a .373 batting average. Pisarski, a catcher, led the team with eight doubles, and batted .326 with 19 RBIs, one home run and two triples.
McDonald, a catcher, and Morley, a left fielder, were part of an Estancia squad beating cross-town rival Costa Mesa three out of four times and winning the Paul Troxel Trophy for the first time since 2001. McDonald was second on the team in batting (.395) and first in doubles (10). Morley ranked third in average (.354) and second in RBIs (22).
Second-team selections from Costa Mesa included senior pitcher Garrick Williams (4-6, 55 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings), sophomore shortstop Miguel Molina (.316, four doubles) and junior outfielder Gabe Sanchez (.359, 21 RBIs, three home runs).
Senior infielder Blake Pinto (.416, 10 RBIs, 17 stolen bases) and junior second baseman Eddie Tomasek (.330, 15 RBIs) made the second team for Estancia (9-18, 3-9 in league).
