LITTLE LEAGUE:Angels upset Yankees, 7-4

It’s a treacherous road, the one that leads to the District 62 Tournament of Champions.

The Angels, second in the regular season to the Yankees in the Huntington Valley Little League Majors Division standings, upended the top-seeded team, 7-4, to advance to the division’s final round.

The Angels came out strong in their first at-bat. Hits by David Mastro, Brodie Barton, Dillon Millar and David Clegg led to four runs. The Yankees countered with three runs of their own behind hits from Jake Weiser, Tate Libuano and AJ Bogard to make it a one-run game.

The Angels scored the next three runs to gain breathing room and pitchers Sean O’Toole, Barton and Kyle Johnson were able to hold off the Yankees who also had key contributions in right field from Ryan Fishel.

The Yankees Alex Alagata hit a solo homer to account for the game’s final run.

The Yankees play an elimination game today.

At Ocean View Little LeagueFacing a must-win situation to keep its hopes for a Tournament of Champions berth alive, the A’s received a standout pitching performance from Grant Mayeaux to blank the Giants.

Mayeaux pitched a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Mayeaux also contributed a pair of doubles and RBI to an A’s offense that saw Kevin Engesser go two for three with a double and RBI, Max Gibbs and Joseph Ratzlaff each had a single and two RBI, Robert Cornwell went two for three, Jacob Baugh doubled and Tyler Hammock singled.

Getting hits for the Giants were Connor Hurst, Anthony Anderson and Michael Griego.
