There’s hardly a doubt, it’s been a banner year for Corona del Mar High.
Corona del Mar tops the list of schools with multiple titles in the CIF Southern Section for 2006-07. The Sea Kings won five CIF Southern Section divisional championships.
In the fall, the Corona del Mar girls’ tennis team and the girls’ cross country squad captured the Division I and III crowns, respectively. Coach Brian Ricker’s tennis team went undefeated on its way to the Division I championship. Coach Bill Sumner’s cross country squad also won the CIF State Division III title.
In the winter, the Sea Kings took home the Division III-A boys’ basketball title. Coach Ryan Schachter’s basketball team defeated Renaissance Academy, 67-59, for the championship.
In the spring, Coach Steve Conti’s boys’ volleyball team overcame adversity, which came from injuries, to claim the Division II title, and Sumner’s girls’ track and field team produced a three-peat, winning its third straight Division III championship.
During the past school year, the CIF Southern Section awarded 141 divisional team championships in 22 varsity sports. Oaks Christian of Westlake Village and Marlborough of Los Angeles were tied for second with four titles each.
