Track stars land honors

With another successful season now in the books, the Laguna Beach High track and field program has awarded several team members from the 2007 season top honors.
Awards were given in three categories: sprints, jumps and hurdles.
During the 2007 season, Laguna’s boys won the Orange Coast League championship and the girls’ team finished in second-place.
The girls’ junior varsity and boys’ frosh/soph teams also won league titles.
Several Breakers qualified for the CIF-Southern Section Division IV prelims and finals held at Carpinteria High and Cerritos College in Norwalk, respectively.
“We’re very proud of our team accomplishments this year,” Laguna boys’ coach Dave Brobeck said. “Winning a league title has always been the defining goal with this program. Laguna has not accomplished this since the late ‘70s. This, to me, is the final word to a season. We had our share of injuries and bad luck, but ultimately we were defined by the guys who competed in extra events to get points for the team.”
“The girls’ track team did an excellent job again this season,” Coach Earl Towner said. “The program continues to improve each year and in the very near future it will be capable of winning league championships of its own.”
