Sunset League finalsNEWPORT BEACH — The Newport Harbor high boys’ swim team won the league meet at Newport Harbor High on Friday.
The Sailors had just a 1-4 dual meet record, but got 426 points at the finals to beat Fountain Valley (405.5) and Edison (398.5). Fountain Valley still claimed the overall league title.
Junior Clint Jorth finished second in the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 42.48 seconds, and was third in the 100 freestyle (47.78 seconds). Senior Kyle McGhie was second in the 100 free (47.77), and Colin McKibbin was fifth in the 500 free (4:51.76). Zach Osadche was third in the 100 back in 56.14 seconds.
Newport Harbor’s David Linden, Jorth, McGhie and Spencer Richley finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28).
The Newport Harbor girls finished fifth in the league meet with 243 points, as Los Alamitos (448) won the meet. Freshman Kate Klippert was fourth in the 100 freestyle (55.33 seconds), as was teammate Jessica Robinson in the 500 free (5:27.72).
Katie Jackson was fifth in the 200 free (2:01.19) and eighth in the 100 fly (1:02.40). Mimi Bury was sixth in the 200 free (2:04.36).
