THE MORAL OF THE STORY:God protects us with his whispers
- Share via
I was recently reminded of the fact that God offers his presence, love and comfort in ways that hopefully we acknowledge as we walk through this adventure of life, but he also looks out for us and protects us from situations that we may take for granted or not be aware of at all. I was going for an overnight visit to my daughter and son-in-law’s house. Before getting on the freeway, I realized I’d forgotten something, so I made a quick trip home and was almost back to the freeway onramp when I realized one of my tires was flat.
I made it to a gas station and they found a razor blade from a workman’s utility knife in my tire and I needed a new tire. I was very thankful when I realized how different the outcome could have been if I’d had a blow-out at high speed on the freeway.
The next week I was doing laundry and other projects downstairs when I felt compelled to go up to our bedroom. At first I smelled smoke and thought that maybe my neighbor had made one of her wonderful-smelling fires in her fireplace, but then I realized I wasn’t smelling a wonderful fire smell at all. I called down for Jon to come up. As it turned out, the smoldering was a result of the sun’s reflection on a magnifying mirror back onto our wooden window shutter. It was easy to put out, and I’m very careful to keep that from happening again. I was so thankful I was home and that I responded to that feeling that I needed to go upstairs when I did.
Does this mean that God chooses not to help or warn some people and protect them from terrible situations? Absolutely not. Unfortunately, accidents, mishaps and disasters are a part of this life, and nobody is immune to them.
But there are times when I think God whispers warnings to us that are worth heeding. I do know without a doubt that at all times, whether we know it or not, God’s mind and love are focused on us.
And you can quote me on that.
