Dodgers’ bats hot in win over Cards
The Dodgers’ bats were red-hot in their Majors Division game against the Cardinals, and their pitching and defense as impressive in a 16-2 victory at Huntington Valley Little League.
Among the key offensive highlights, Megan Feuerstein went four for five with two doubles, a single and RBI, Jaycen Watson had three singles and three RBI, Don Pierce had a single and RBI, Matthew Levinson singled and doubled, Kyle Crossen singled, doubled and tripled with three RBI, Jason Hartert had two doubles and three RBI, and Josh Napier doubled.
Don Pierce had a shutout going into the bottom of the sixth but then gave up two runs. Levinson closed the game.
Coming up big on defense for the Dodgers were Andrew Geiger and Jarrett Anton.
Billy Morehouse doubled and singled for the Cardinals. Garrett Garcia doubled and Mario Gross singled twice.
Minor B Division
A’s 7, Yankees 5
In their first game back from spring break, the A’s outlasted the Yankees in a game called in the sixth inning due to darkness.
For the A’s, Ben Markus had a two-RBI double. Other hits came from Jimmy Pierce, Nathan Hoscoe, Mark Schenkleberg, Josh Reulein and Erika Polhamus.
At Seaview Little League
Majors Division
Rangers 5, Red Sox 4
The Rangers jumped out to an early lead, then held off the Red Sox.
Danny Maguire, Shane Heath and Nick Rommerdahl each doubled, and Chandler Thorpe, Adam Moses, Ryan Melvin and Joe Hyams also had hits.
Maguire, Moses and Mark Slader all took turns on the mound for the Rangers.
Minor A Division
Red Sox 9, Angels 7
The Red Sox erupted for eight first-inning runs and then withstood several challenges by the Angels.
Zack Wakefield started the game with a single and scored the first of eight Red Sox runs on a hit by Tim Maguire. The hitting of Drew Silva, Nolyn Jacobs, Garrett Babbitt, Dallas Syfert and Matt McKenzie also figured prominently in the early onslaught.
At Ocean View Little League
Majors Division
A’s 10, Mets 0
The A’s scored their 10 runs in the first two inningsto roll past the Mets.
A three-run first inning was the result of timely hits by Kevin Engesser, Grant Mayeaux and Joseph Ratzlaff. The A’s sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run second inning with big hits recorded by Engesser, Spencer Tyra, Max Gibbs and Robert Cornwell.
Mayeaux, Ratzlaff and Gibbs combined to allow just one hit with 10 strikeouts. No Mets runner was allowed past second base, and Andrew Davis had the lone hit for the Mets.
Giants 1, A’s 0
The Giants came out on top of a tight game that went to the final pitch.
Jake Schultze pitched a complete game for the Giants and allowed four hits.
Max Gibbs and Grant Mayeaux of the A’s combined to allow only one hit, but three walks and a hit batter in the fourth inning was the difference.
Grant Coultrup had the only hit for the Giants. A’s hits went to Mayeaux, Joseph Ratzlaff, Evan Corey and Noah Bartos.
Minor A Division
Twins 11, A’s 7
The Twins exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to post a come-from-behind win over the A’s.
Stuart Morton went three for four with two home runs to power the Twins. Daniel Amaral and Tyler Somerville had two hits apiece.
Tyler Somerville came on in relief to get the win, which was secured when shortstop Daniel Amaral registered all three outs in the sixth inning, including a leaping catch that led to a double play to close out the victory.
Twins 8, Astros 3
The Twins returned to action following spring break with an impressive offensive showing.
Stuart Morton began a fruitful week at the plate by clubbing a three-run home run. He also started on the mound and gave up just one hit with 11 strikeouts in four innings to run his record to 6-0.
Jack Shearer picked up the save.
Andrew DeLoach had two hits and two RBI, and Jack Shearer and Ben Vaught had key hits for the Twins. Alec Barbisan scored twice and made two key stops in the outfield. JoJo Amaral, Ben Roth and Micah Bartle also scored, and Daniel Amaral made another grab at shortstop for a key out.
