2007 Academic All-Stars

They may be the faces of tomorrow, but over the last four years, they’ve been pretty familiar faces around town as well.

That’s because the 30 students set to be honored by the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce this morning have one thing in common: They’ve all been out and about.

Any student can buckle down and study for a 4.0 grade-point average. This year’s Academic All-Stars, however, were more than sterling pupils. They were varsity sailors, political activists, pianists, soccer coaches and many more things as well. Beyond their scholastic achievement, many of them gave generously of their time to help out with youth groups and fundraising efforts, as well as in hospitals, schools and churches.

Regardless, the 30 young people expected to take the stage today serve as proof of how rewarding the first 18 years of life can be.

Most plan to attend college with the goals of becoming scientists, teachers, doctors, architects, engineers and more.

This morning, at the 46th annual Scholarship Breakfast, the city will honor 15 college-bound seniors each from Corona del Mar High School and Newport Harbor High School. Their faces, and parts of their stories, appear below.
