Orange Coast 3,COSTA MESA — The Pirates picked up their first Orange Empire Conference win in more than two years Friday at home.

Orange Coast scored all of its runs in the second inning. Paulina Rodriguez led things off with a walk and went to second when Felicia Leal reached on an error. A fielder’s choice by Chelsea Evers put runners on first and third before Ashley Coia came through with a single to center, scoring Rodriguez and giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, Laura Salcido ripped a double to left, scoring Evers and Leal for a 3-0 advantage.
Santiago Canyon added a pair of runs in the sixth and had runners on first and second with one out in the seventh, before Evers finished off her complete-game win by inducing a groundout and a flyout to end the threat.
OCC will return to action at Riverside on Monday at 6 p.m.

TRACK AND FIELD
Orange Coast, Fullerton, Riverside tri-meetCOSTA MESA — Brandon Babiracki won the 800 meters, 1,500 and 3,000 to help the Pirates men’s team defeat Fullerton, 113.5-28.5, but Riverside beat OCC, 90-55.
Babiracki won the 800 in 1 minute, 55.07 seconds, the 1,500 in 4:02.15 and the 3,000 in 8:48.25.
Keneti Faagata won the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 11 inches. He also finished second in the hammer throw (121-6) and second in the discus (150-2).
Teammate Andres Rossini was first in the discus (163-6) and third in the hammer (116-9).
It was a 1-2 finish in the pole vault for the OCC duo of Kyle Peterson (14-6) and Trevor Schuesler (14-0).
Other top-three finishes for the OCC men included George Prior in the shot put (third, 40-5 1/2 ) and javelin (third, 175-8), Scott Burbach in the javelin (second, 180-3), Kyle Peterson in the 110 high hurdles (second, 16.46), Justin Parga in the 400 (third, 50.29), Josh Strickland in the 100 (third, 11.32), Chris Pfeifer in the 400 hurdles (second, 56.97), the 400 relay (second, 42.66) and the 1,600 relay (second, 3:19.25).
On the women’s side, Hester Chang again broke her own record in the hammer throw with a mark of 149-2. It’s the third time this year that Chang has set the new best mark in the event.
Brenda Finney won the 100 hurdles (16.21) and the 400 hurdles (1:08.76).
Jade Leblanc was the lone participant to clear 10 feet in the pole vault, while teammate Brittany Ickes continued her impressive stint in the javelin throw with a winning toss of 106-6.
Kristin Glen finished first in the 1,500 (5:02.11), second in the 3,000 (11:17.7) and third in the 800 (2:29.28).
Other top-three finishes for the OCC women were Melinda Rackliffe in the 1,500 (third, 5:17), the 400 relay (third, 52.17) and the 1,600 relay (second, 4:14.09).
Next up for the Pirates will be the Orange Empire Conference Championships, which will take place April 27-28 at Santa Ana College at 11 a.m.
Azusa Pacific InvitationalAZUSA — UC Irvine sophomore Oliver Plattner turned in a pair of Big West Conference-qualifying times Friday.
Plattner had a time of 10.84 seconds in the 100 meters, placing 10th, and 48.88 in the 400 (12th) to qualify for the conference meet at Cal State Northridge on May 11-12. He qualified in the 200earlier this season.
UCI junior Nicole Dickerson finished 12th of the 100 with a time of 12.42 seconds, just off the Big West qualifying mark of 12.39.
Sophomore Natasha Wardley finished sixth in the long jump (18 feet, one-half inch, while senior Ashlee Marshell was 10th (17-6).
Mt. SAC RelaysWALNUT — UC Irvine junior Laura Olvera finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 21.06 seconds, while junior teammate Sara Mickelson was ninth in 17:42.65 on Friday.
Senior Ricky Barnes finished third in his section of the 1,500 with a time of 3:46.92.
Junior Tim Hearst finished sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:10.28 and junior Sky Johnston was seventh (9:10.66). Hearst won his section of the 800 in 1:55.55 to place 12th overall.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Vanguard 9, Westmont 0COSTA MESA — The Lions cruised in the nonconference match Friday at Vanguard, improving to 16-2.
Senior Amy Brown, juniors Damia Donkervoort and Olivia Amstad, sophomore Hana Jurcovicova, as well as freshmen Zuzana Zustakova and Megan Mickelsen all won singles matches for the Lions.
