Laguna Beach Tennis tournament deadline today

The Laguna Beach Tennis Tournament will celebrate its 50th year of competition with tournament play set for the weekends of April 21-22 and 28-29.

Events include men’s and women’s singles, doubles and mixed 2.0 through Open play. A Youth/Experienced doubles event that will pair a young player with an adult, also will be held.

Entries close today. Late entries may be accepted but are not guaranteed a spot. Singles play entry is $30 per player and doubles play $40 per pair. Payment should be sent to City of Laguna Beach, Tennis Tournament, Laguna Beach Community Services Dept., 515 Forest Ave. 92651.

Entry forms are available at courts in Laguna Beach, the Community Services Dept., and by request at [email protected].

Breakers maintain No. 5 spot in Division-II poll

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team maintained its No. 5 ranking in the latest CIF-Southern Section Division-II poll.

The top six spots remained the same but No. 7 Claremont and No. 8 Arcadia swapped places from the week before. The other changes saw Canyon of Canyon Country, which held the No. 10 spot last week, fall out of the poll. The Cowboys were replaced at the 10th spot by newcomer Saugus.

The weekly rankings were released Monday by the Southern Section office in Los Alamitos.

Division II poll: 1. Corona del Mar; 2. Santa Barbara; 3. Valencia/Valencia; 4. Dos Pueblos; 5. Laguna Beach; 6. San Marcos; 7. Claremont; 8. Arcadia; 9. Santa Ynez; 10. Saugus.

Others: Canyon/Canyon Country; Oxnard; San Luis Obispo.
