Lido to play ‘Games’

A Newport Beach Film Festival favorite from 2005 returns to the Regency Lido Theater this week, beginning a limited theatrical run.

Former Newport Beach resident Stefan Marc directed “Dating Games People Play,” a romantic comedy that focuses on the often divergent perspectives of men and women immersed in the dating scene.

“ ‘Dating Games’ was one of the most successful local films we’ve had at the festival, and we’re exceptionally proud that it’s coming back for a run at the Lido Theater,” said Gregg Schwenk, festival founder and executive director.

In addition to being the first film in festival history to sell out the Lido for both of its screenings, it is one of the rare movies to be shot entirely in Newport Beach, featuring local spots such as the Balboa Fun Zone, the Cannery and Joe’s Crab Shack.

“Newport Beach is just such a pleasant environment to shoot in,” Marc said. “I think it’s the lure of the beach, its beautiful houses and all the great restaurants.”

“Dating Games People Play” will show at 2:30, 4:45, 7 and 9:10 p.m. today through Friday at the Regency Lido Theater, 3459 Via Lido, Newport Beach.

Tickets for this year’s Newport Beach Film Festival go on sale today at noon at www.newportbeachfilmfest.com . For more information, call (949) 253-2880.
