Surfer Girls vs. Dominators: The Surfer Girls played solid offense and defense. Clara Eddy, Teddie Hart, Priscilla Ocampo and Sydney Palmer combined in goal for the shutout, while Andie Lee and Nicole Sanchez continuously foiled the opponents’ offensive attack. Offensively, the Surfer Girls were led by Olivia Kalatschan, Holly Nance and Heather Roberts, who combined for several breakaways and shots on goal.

Tidal Wave vs. Purple Polar Bears: Destry Comp scored an early goal for the Tidal Wave, while teammates Julia Ackerman, Missy Taylor, Sienna Amoroso and Isabella Morris all took great dribbling runs at the goal. Later in the game, Comp and Hannah Alderson worked together to add another goal for the Waves. Vanessa Crandall played well in goal with defensive support from Lauren Henke and Emma Hammond. Maile Raventos made several tackles and Brianna Smith positioned herself well to move the ball through the midfield.

Coach Berry Carter’s Newport-Mesa Longhorns rolled through the NJB area district tournament, advancing to sectionals.

The Longhorns, winners of last year’s national NJB tournament and last year’s Christmas tournament, advanced by winning three games by an average of 27 points. They beat Irvine, 61-26, Fountain Valley, 52-15, and Tustin, 52-33.

Utilizing a platoon system with “Fire” and “Brimstone” units, the Longhorns opened up an early 10-point lead against Irvine White. Led by Austin Percy and Ben Humphreys, they had a 15-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The “Brimstone” squad, led by Brett Greenlee, Austin Ridge and Mario Nark, then stretched the lead to more than 30 points.

Against Fountain Valley, Keisean South and Jake Haar led the “Fire” charge and opened up an early 15-point lead. Harrison Carter, Riley Gaddis and Landon Knight then led the “Brimstone” brigade, which led by 30 before the end of the half.

The title game featured the undefeated Tustin Warriors team against the Longhorns. “Fire” opened a seven- point first quarter lead. “Brimstone” followed with a 12-0 second quarter and the locals never looked back.
