Vanguard 66,SAN DIEGO — Senior Kelly Schmidt had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists as the Lions clinched their fifth straight Golden State Athletic Conference title Tuesday at Pt. Loma.

Jessica Richter added 15 points, seven rebounds and three three-pointers for Vanguard (23-0, 18-0 in conference), which won its 56th straight regular-season game and 43rd consecutive regular-season GSAC contest.
Lacey Burns added 11 points for the Lions, who play host to Biola on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Orange Coast 5, Saddleback 4COSTA MESA — Mahthab Davatolhagh won her singles match in straight sets for the Pirates then teamed with Diane Phame for Orange Coast’s lone doubles victory in the Orange Empire Conference opener Tuesday.
The Pirates, the defending state champions, improved to 4-0, 1-0 in conference.

Orange Coast 7, Saddleback 2MISSION VIEJO — The Pirates (4-0, 1-0 in the Orange Empire Conference) won five of six singles matches, and Pat Lam also won at No. 1 doubles with Jon Kroopf in the OEC opener Tuesday at Saddleback College.
BASEBALL
UC Irvine 6, USC 3LOS ANGELES — Anteaters third baseman Tyler Vaughn scored twice as UCI reeled off its fourth straight nonleague victory Tuesday.
Second baseman Cody Cipriano was two-for-three for the ‘Eaters (7-2-1) and designated hitter Nick Baligod had a home run. Reid Suitor got the win, improving to 2-0 with two innings of shutout relief work.
UCI begins a three-game home series with Utah on Friday at 6 p.m.
