UC Irvine 7, Loyola Marymount 2IRVINE — Aaron Lowenstein, the Anteaters catcher, went 3 for 4 with an RBI and outfielder Matt Morris was 3 for 5 to lead UCI to the nonconference win at Anteater Ballpark Saturday.
UCI southpaw Daniel Bibona pitched a strong four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five but left the game trailing 2-1. Junior Wes Etheridge picked up for Bibona and hurled four shutout innings, striking out five and limiting the Lions to just two hits to improve to 1-1 with the win.
The Anteaters (3-2) end the three-game series with the Lions (3-3) today at LMU.

In the first game, Dustin Jones threw seven innings of shutout ball, striking out eight for Vanguard in his first win of the year. Andrew Riddle threw two innings in relief.
Shortstop Zach Leighton, right fielder Jason Machado and second baseman Keegan Freeman all blasted home runs for Vanguard, which scored at least once in each of the first six innings. Leighton and left fielder Luke Iverson both had three hits and combined for four runs scored.

Pacific def. UC IrvineIRVINE — The Tigers, ranked No. 13, upset the second-ranked Anteaters 32-30, 30-28, 20-30, 30-18, 15-10, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Crawford Court Saturday.
Jayson Jablonsky paced UCI (12-3, 7-3 in conference) with 17 kills, three solo blocks, five block assists and six digs. Middle blocker Aaron Harrell had 11 kills, David Smith seven and Cole Reinholm nine. Brian Thornton tallied 51 set assists.
Pekka Seppanen had 14 kills for Pacific (7-6, 5-4).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Vanguard 75, Westmont 48SANTA BARBARA — Jessica Richter scored a game-high 30 points to lead the NAIA No. 1 ranked Lions to a Golden State Athletic Conference win Saturday.
Lacey Burns added 13 points and Kelly Schmidt contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for Vanguard (20-0, 15-0 in conference), which won its 53rd consecutive regular-season game and 41st straight GSAC game.

Vanguard 2,Vanguard 9, San Marcos 1SAN MARCOS — Melissa Forrester, who was two for two with an RBI, singled in Jennifer Olvera for the game-winning run in the eighth inning for the Lions’ opening win of the nonconference doubleheader Saturday.

Sara Howe went three for three with three RBIs and a home run to help lead Vanguard (5-2) to the win in the second game. Pitcher Jennifer Rynda struck out five, allowed seven hits and at the plate hit a three-run double in the Lions’ four-run first.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
Northern Arizona Four-Way MeetFLAGSTAFF, ARIZ. — Sophomore Lauren Collins took third in the 60-meter hurdles for UC Irvine on Saturday.
Collins finished the race in 8.94 seconds. Tayler Cusick took third in the long jump with a distance of 5.27 meters, and Sarah Lady (12.28 meters) finished third in the shot put.
Corica Rodgers finished fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.11, and teammate Nicole Alai (1:00.71) was seventh. Lauren Willis and Nicole Dickerson tied for sixth in the 60-meter dash, both finishing in 7.89 seconds.
Dickerson took seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.86, and Erricka Williams (11.14 meters) was fifth in the triple jump.
