Orange Coast 74, Irvine Valley 38COSTA MESA — The Pirates clinched at least a share of the Orange Empire Conference title, also staying undefeated in conference play with their win at home Wednesday.

Courtney Ford had team-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds for Orange Coast (25-3, 11-0). Robin Smith had 13 points, including three three-pointers, and Brittany Taylor added 10 for the Pirates, who forced Irvine Valley into 30 turnovers.

OCC, ranked No. 4 in Southern California, can clinch the OEC title outright when it plays at Santa Ana on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Irvine Valley 77, Orange Coast 71COSTA MESA — Shaun Engle had 15 points and four steals, but the Pirates couldn’t hold a halftime lead and fell in an Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday at OCC.

Miguel Gonzalez had 13 points, Cameron Wise had 12 and Costa Mesa High product Brian Molina added 10 for the Pirates (13-14, 4-5 in conference).

Jason Toney had a game-high 36 points, including six three-pointers, for Irvine Valley (14-14, 3-7).

Orange Coast returns to Orange Empire Conference action Friday at 7:30 p.m. when it plays at Santa Ana.

Imperial Valley 6, Orange Coast 4COSTA MESA — Ashley Cota collected three hits and two RBIs for the Pirates, who were swept in the nonconference doubleheader Wednesday.

Janae Rivera and Darci Pennnington had two hits each in the second game for OCC (1-5), while Allison Wyman had two runs scored.

Orange Coast will play at Grossmont in a doubleheader Friday at noon.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Long Beach City def.LONG BEACH — Kevin Welch had 11 kills and Brett Lessman added eight for the Pirates in their 30-17, 30-25, 30-27 nonconference road loss Wednesday.

Orange Coast, 3-0

The Vikings (0-1), the defending state champions, won their 19th straight match dating back to last year. The Pirates (0-1) will play host to El Camino Friday at 6 p.m.
