Arraignment today for assault suspect
A man accused of stabbing his friend and roommate at their Costa Mesa home is scheduled to be arraigned today on assault charges.
At 2:48 a.m. Sunday, Costa Mesa police received a call about a stabbing at a house on the 800 block of Darrell Street, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bob Ciszek said.
They arrested Harold Leroy McClain, 57, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim was stabbed twice in the stomach but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, Ciszek said.
McClain was transported to Orange County Jail and is being held on $25,000 bail.
Charges had not been filed against McClain as of Monday evening, said a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Police seek Rite-Aid robber
Costa Mesa police are looking for a man who robbed a Harbor Boulevard Rite-Aid on Saturday and stole the drug Oxycontin.
The robber told employees at the store, 3029 Harbor Blvd., at about 11:45 a.m. that he had a weapon before demanding “a substantial quantity” of Oxycontin, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Clay Epperson said. Police said the man is a clean-shaven white man with a thin build, about 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black cap, black-hooded sweatshirt, green shirt and dark pants.
Oxycontin, a painkiller, has been the object of recent burglaries, but this is the first such robbery in some time that Epperson said he was aware of.
Anyone with information on the crime should call the Costa Mesa detective bureau at (714) 754-5205.
