COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL PREVIEW

Here are some items the council will consider Tuesday:

SENIOR COMMITTEE

The city has operated a senior center since 1990 and has had a committee that included residents so they could provide input on programs and problems at the center, but there’s never been an advisory group on general senior issues. Anne Hogan-Shereshevsky has suggested a new committee to advise the council on the needs of Costa Mesa’s seniors.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If council members are interested in a senior advisory committee, tonight they will ask to have it brought back on an upcoming agenda, when they would formally vote to create the committee.

PARK PURCHASE

When it comes to recreation, the council’s focus in recent years has been on finding athletic fields, but a recent city study showed an overall need for parkland for more passive uses. The council will hold a closed session discussion today about possibly buying the former Park Private Day School property on Monte Vista Avenue. The school closed in June. The property, nearly 1.2 acres, is adjacent to Brentwood Park, a passive park with a playground and picnic area. Assistant City Manager Tom Hatch said it’s not yet clear what the city would do with the property, but the parks commission likely would be asked for recommendations if the council wants to buy it.
