Aliso Niguel 1 NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors scored two second half goals to break a 1-1 tie and upset Aliso Niguel, the No. 6-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I, Thursday.
Junior Emily Ohlhaver, senior Alex Conley and sophomore Kayla Henrie each scored a goal. Junior Crystal Mena was also key in setting up goals with her lengthy throw ins.
“That was the best Christmas present they could have given me,” Sailors Coach Josh Brooks said.
Senior Mary Giberson made eight saves for the Sailors (5-3-1). Newport Harbor next plays El Toro Wednesday.

CORONA DEL MAR — Alex Tobiessen, AJ Rome and Alexandra Elias scored one goal each in the Sea Kings’ nonleague win on Thursday.
In the first half, Anna Fletcher won a ball at midfield and passed it up ahead to Tobiessen, who connected just inside the 18-yard box.
Later, in the second half, Rome collected the ball from 25 yards out and planted a left-footed shot into the upper right corner.
Goalie Corey Cano and Lexi Henson contributed to Corona del Mar’s final goal. After Cano’s punt traveled about 60 yards, Henson flicked it to Elias, who scored from the top of the 18 in the 70th minute.
Cano recorded four saves for the Sea Kings (3-5-4). Laguna Beach dropped to 4-4-1.
CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said the win was a great way to end the pre-league season. The Sea Kings open Pacific Coast League action Jan. 9, when they play at Beckman.
“My girls played physically, which we had been lacking,” Middleton said. “They finally played to their potential.”

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Freshman Nushin Tasbichi scored for the Eagles who left Golden West College Thursday with a tie.
Senior Madison Urtusuastegui made nine saves and junior Stacy McDaniels played well on defense, but Eagles Coach Steven Crenshaw added “we got a good game out of the entire defense.”

CORONA DEL MAR — David Garcia (130-pound division), Adrian Luchs (171) and Bruce Hartshorn (189) each won by one point in their respective matches to key the Sailors’ win in the Battle of the Bay on Thursday night.
Eddie Garcia, in the 112 weight class, Nick Bernstein, 119s, Michael Perrotta, 140s and Edgar Guadarrama, 160s, recorded pins for the Sailors.
Josh George, in the 135-pound division, won by a technical fall, 21-4.
“The kids showed a lot of heart from Tuesday [a 44-30 win over Huntington Beach],” Newport Coach Dominic Bulone said. “And, it’s nice to win those close matches.”
There were a few bright spots for the Sea Kings, including Andrew Martinez in the 145-pound divison. He recorded the fastest pin of the night in 31 seconds. Cole Shepard (125) also had a pin for CdM.
In the heavyweight division, the Sea Kings’ Max Prescott avenged a tough loss from last year with a 5-3 win over Brian Beaudette. Last year, Prescott lost to Beaudette, when the Newport wrestler earned a point at the buzzer.
Scott Eskew collected the Sea Kings’ lone win by one point in the 152-pound division.
“We had a great time,” CdM Coach Gary Almquist said. “With the sportsmanship and the camaraderie, it was a great night.

LA HABRA — Senior Michelle Hallock sunk a lay up with 12 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime, junior guard Tiffany Monteiro hit seven-of-eight free throws in overtime and the Eagles won their final game of pool play, 56-50, Thursday to advance to the third-place game in the La Habra Tournament.
Senior Yasmin Arroyo scored 16 points, senior Alondra Barrera had 13, senior Tamisha Williams had 12 and Monteiro had 11 for the Eagles (3-6).
