Man holds woman hostage with knife
A man held a woman hostage at knifepoint for 20 minutes early Wednesday in a Costa Mesa industrial park, police said.
Joseph Elden Oakes, 51, address unknown, called police at 12:55 a.m. to the industrial park at Randolph Avenue and Baker Street, police said.
When they arrived, they found him holding a folding pocketknife to a woman’s throat in front of a building. Oakes talked to officers for about 20 minutes before they saw an opening and took him down with a Taser, police said.
The woman had minor cuts.
Police arrested Oakes on suspicion of making a terrorist threat, attempted murder and kidnapping.
He is being held at Orange County Jail on $503,000 bail, and will be arraigned at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach on Thursday.
Three young people arrested in burglary
Costa Mesa police arrested three Costa Mesa juveniles on suspicion of residential burglary Monday, police said.
Police responded to a burglary call in the 1000 block of Cheyenne Street at 1:16 p.m.
They apprehended three youths in connection with the incident.
Police did not respond to repeated requests for more information.
String of vehicle burglaries reported
A string of vehicle burglaries was reported in a large apartment complex near Orange Coast College.
Four vehicle burglaries and a stolen car were reported Monday at the apartments in the 1500 block of East Mesa Verde Drive.
