Ballet Pacifica honors founder, partners with Laguna sculptor

Ballet Pacifica honored its founder, Lila Zali, at the opening of its 40th annual “Nutcracker” production on Dec. 9 by renaming of its Studio One facility after her.

Zali founded the Laguna Beach Civic Ballet in the late 1950s; it was incorporated and renamed Ballet Pacifica in 1962, making it the oldest resident ballet company in Orange County.

The group has also partnered with sculptor Richard MacDonald, who created an open-edition sculpture, “Angelic Crystal,” that will be given to those who become Ballet Pacifica Principal Partners at the $1,000 level.
