Here are a few items the council will consider Monday:

GRAFFITI BUSTING

Council members will vote on Mayor Gil Coerper’s proposal to encourage citizens to report graffiti vandalism. Fountain Valley has instituted a similar policy that has been successful in reducing graffiti.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Residents would receive a reward of $500 if they call police to report vandals. The city has seen a huge increase in graffiti in the city and is mounting a campaign to remove it as well while encouraging citizens to call the hotline number to report vandalism.

GOING NONPROFIT

The city’s 3/1 committee, which oversees efforts to support soldiers from the 3rd Battalion/1st Marines regiment at Camp Pendleton, is set to become a nonprofit foundation if council members approve the item. The Thundering Third Marines were adopted by the city in 2005.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The committee has been highly successful in raising money to support the Marines, totaling about $97,000. With the nonprofit status, the committee will be independent of overview from the city. But council members promise to continue being involved with the committee’s work.
