CITYSCAPE ROUNDUP:Permit parking on agenda

The Parking, Traffic and Circulation (PTC) Committee will consider final recommendations regarding the proposed residential parking permit program in the Flatlands/Woods Cove neighborhoods at its next meeting, 6 p.m. Thursday, in Laguna Beach City Hall, Conference Room A, 505 Forest Ave.

The City Council requested that the PTC Committee review a proposed residential parking permit program in the Flatlands/Woods Cove neighborhoods on June 6. The committee was also requested to conduct a noticed public hearing on this proposed program which was held on Aug.21.

The public is invited to review and comment on the final recommendations. Copies of the final recommendations regarding the proposed residential parking permit program are available in the Public Works Department at City Hall.

Last beach cleanup of year slated Saturday

The Clean Water Now! Coalition will hold its final Adopt-A-Beach cleanup of the year from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 9.

Participants will get free all-day parking placards. Parking placards will be available at all beach stations, in addition to bags, gloves, tidepool information and other materials.

Stations will be located at:

  • Main Beach;
  • Oak Street; and
  • Treasure Island Beach at The Montage Resort & Spa.
  • The cleanup is sponsored by the Hearts of the Montage, the Athens Group, and the Laguna Beach Visitors & Conference Bureau

    Traffic safety projects under way

    Three high-traffic areas of Laguna Beach will be getting measures to promote safety for vehicles and pedestrians. The project were reported recently by City Manager Ken Frank.

  • On South Coast Highway at Legion Street, a traffic signal modification project will involve replacement of traffic signal equipment and installation of a protected left turn arrow from southbound Coast Highway onto Legion Street. The work is scheduled to be completed the first week in December.
  • A traffic signal is being installed on Broadway to service the Festival of Arts. The work began two weeks ago and is scheduled to be completed by the end of January. Design for this project was funded by Caltrans. The $400,000 construction cost is funded by the City and Measure M.
  • A flashing crosswalk is planned to service the Laguna College of Art on Laguna Canyon Road. The work is scheduled to begin in early January and to be completed by the end of February. The project will include a flashing beacon in advance of the crosswalk in each direction.
  • In addition, a turnout will be constructed at the Broadway bus depot beginning in the next week, Frank said. The work will be done by the City’s contractor in coordination with the Caltrans resurfacing work now in progress on Broadway. The project will take about two months to complete.
  • Garden Club meets on native plants

    The Laguna Beach Garden Club will present Greg Rubin, owner of California’s Own Native Landscape Design in Escondido, at the club’s monthly meeting on Friday, Dec. 8.

    Rubin’s presentation will focus on California native plants, and how to make gardening easier by planting and maintaining plants that like to grow here.

    Social gathering will be at 9:30 a.m and business meeting and program speaker at 10 a.m. The meeting take place at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, on the corner of St. Anne’s and Glenneyre. Free once for guests.

    Seniors plan annual Christmas luncheon

    Laguna Beach Seniors Inc. will hold their annual Christmas luncheon and membership meeting Monday, Dec. 11 at Tivoli Terrace, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.

    The luncheon is open to the community and members, and feature a luncheon, entertainment, and opportunity prizes. The new 2007 Laguna Beach Seniors, Inc. officers and directors will be announced.

    The grand opportunity prize is a one night stay at Montage Resort & Spa.

    Luncheon tickets may be purchased at the Senior Center Offices at Legion Hall, 384 Legon St., for $30 per person. Reservations should be made by Tuesday.
