NAIA national championships
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Vanguard University sophomore Grace Jepngetich placed second with a time of 17 minutes, 47.90 seconds Saturday at Tom Sawyer State Park.
Jepngetich, who last year finished 17th at the nationals, helped the Lions take 15th as a team. Rebecca Sopp finished 25th (18:35.60), followed by Olivia Amstad (171st, 20:05.70), Jewel Butler (178th, 20:10.50), Kelsie Davis (250th, 21:26.80) and Sara Ann Medlen (262nd, 22:43.65).

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jessica Richter scored 20 points to help the Lions win Saturday in a Rotary Classic game featuring two programs sharing the NAIA Division I top spot.
Kelly Schmidt added 16 points for the Lions (4-0), who went 3-0 during the three-day, round-robin tournament hosted by Union.
Vanguard handed the reigning NAIA champion its first loss of the year. Union (5-1) hurt itself by making just nine of 17 free throws and allowing the Lions to make 53.3 percent of their field goals in the second half.

VENTURA — Nicole Huff scored on a header from Melissa Wiesz’s corner kick in the 80th minute leading the 13th-seeded Pirates to the upset over fifth-seeded Ventura in a first-round game of the Southern California Regional playoffs Saturday.
Katie Johnson had six saves for OCC (15-7-1) which will play at 11th-seeded Santa Monica on Tuesday.

NORTHRIDGE — UCI’s three-match winning streak ended on the road as Cal State Northridge swept the Anteaters, 30-24, 30-28, 30-26, Saturday.
Lauren Kellerman recorded 13 kills and 12 digs for UCI (12-16).

LONG BEACH — Junior Colin Mello led UCI with two goals, but the No. 11-ranked Anteaters fell Saturday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
