Art classes continue through February

Laguna Outreach for Community Arts’ “Art Escapes” weekly art classes held by local artists are scheduled through February 2007.

All classes are held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Aliso Creek Inn, 31106 S. Coast Highway, and are $35 unless otherwise specified. Space is limited; pre-registration is required. Call (949) 363-4700 for information and registration.

This month, Pam Peterson will teach jewelry making on Nov. 20 and 27. An additional materials fee of $15 per bracelet and $30 per necklace will be charged.

During January, watercolor teacher Roger Folk will offer two “Shorebirds and Seashore” sessions each Monday, from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. Each class builds upon the previous; students of all ability levels are welcome, but advanced students are asked to bring their own supplies.

Carolyn Machado will teach two mosaic tile classes using a variety of recycled materials on Feb. 5 and 12.

Michele Taylor will then teach painted relief tile crafting on Feb. 19 and 26; students are asked to attend both sessions, unless they have prior permission from Taylor.

Local songwriter releases new album

Songwriter Mike Baas will release his first full-length album, “Making the Way Back Home,” on Thursday, Dec. 21. His band will host a CD release party and concert at Mosun’s Club M, 680 S. Coast Highway, that night at 7 p.m. Alec Bridges will open at 7:15 p.m. Baas’ band will perform sets at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door; the venue is 18-and-over until 10 p.m., and 21-and-over after that.

First Sundays to feature soprano, pianist, cellist

Laguna Beach Live! has scheduled its free December First Sundays event, from 3 to 4:30, Dec. 3, to feature mezzo-soprano Charlene Chi, pianist Yana Reznik and cellist Alexander Suleiman.

The concert will be held at Studio 6 at the Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Rd.

The college’s art gallery will open at 2 p.m.

Open studio event in Laguna Canyon

More than 25 artists at the Laguna Canyon Artists’ Studios, 3251 Laguna Canyon Road, will open their spaces to the public for a two-day event on Dec. 2 and 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Visitors will be able to view works in progress and purchase gifts, including painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, glass and more. Refreshments and free parking are available.
