Season concludes for local programs
The Ocean View High football team ended its 2006 season on a winning note Friday when the Seahawks defeated visiting Santa Ana, 14-7, in the Golden West League and regular season finale for both teams.
Junior quarterback Dana Maley thew two touchdown passes, one each in the second and third quarters, as Ocean View staked its way to a 14-0 lead. Maley and Chris Katsuki teamed on a 34-yard scoring play late in the second quarter, and Maley connected with Matt Graham on a fade route in the third quarter.
Maley threw for 160 yards with Katsuki on the receiving end of 108 of those yards on five receptions.
The Seahawks ended league play with a record of 2-3 and had a 3-7 overall mark.
In other season finales:
Marina concluded Sunset League play with a 42-7 loss to visiting Esperanza at Westminster High.
The Vikings ended league play at 0-5 and finished 1-9 overall.
The victory gave Esperanza (9-1, 4-1) a share of the Sunset title along with Edison, and the Aztecs secured the league’s top seeding in the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 Division playoffs that start Friday. Esperanza defeated Edison earlier this season, 38-0.
Kirk Sorensen scored on a five-yard run in the opening quarter for Marina.
Huntington Beach ended its first year in the Sea View League with a 26-10 home loss to league champion Foothill (8-2, 5-0) on Nov. 9. Bobby Duarte and Josh Smith hooked up on a 24-yard touchdown pass play, Clayton Prestrige connected on a 25-yard field goal and Stephen Gabbard rushed for 110 yards for the Oilers.
Huntington ended its first season in the league with a 2-3 record. The Oilers finished 6-4 overall.
